Awards & Installation Banquet – Saturday January 12th @ 6p
A final Awards & Installation (A&I) Banquet at the club house located on North Scott Street is being planned for Saturday, January 12 at 6 pm. While the primary focus of the evening will be to recognize last year’s officers and install the 2019 Board (a brief program will start at 7 pm), there will be time to remember the special moments that we have all enjoyed at the Clubhouse. If you are interested in attending, please respond to Julianne Shockley via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/1278272045631453/) or shockleyjul@gmail.com so they have a rough idea of how much food to purchase. Items from the house such as the tiles from the bar wall will be available to take home. If you are unable to attend but would like your wall tile, please contact Steve Bufflap (sebufflap@aol.com ) Attire is semi-formal/semi-casual. A modest buffet, hors d’oeuvres and open bar will be available.
Final Packing & Moving Day – Saturday, January 19th @ 9a
We spent a good part of Sunday sorting, purging and organizing items at the club house located at 1309 N. Scott Street for our pending sale and move. If you are available on Saturday, January 19th at 9am, your help is greatly needed to load a truck to take our archives and items we plan on keeping to storage. We also have a truck planned to go to Habitat for Humanity’s Restore drop off location. Again, the more help we have the quicker it will go.
Your Help is Always Welcomed!
We are sure that those of you who are hearing this news for the first time will be shocked, sad, mad or a little of all three. For those of us who have been working on this for the last 12-18 months, we have experienced those emotions and more. While we are all sad to see the Clubhouse sold, we believe that it is the only way for the Wilmington Jaycees to survive. That said, while the sale removes one major obstacle, there are other challenges, namely attracting new young people who are looking for what we wanted 10 to 40 years ago when we joined. If you know of someone who might be interested in joining, please connect them to Lisa Gansz (lmg1231@comcast.net) and she will relay them to the chapter board.
Thank you,
Wilmington Jaycees Alumni
